Pot Melt

This is my first attempted at doing a pot melt. A pot melt is made when glass is put into a pot that has holes in the bottom. The pot is placed in the kiln and elevated over the kiln shelf. When the temperature of the kiln gets very high, the glass melts and drips out of the holes and onto the shelf. I had the glass drip into a steel ring. This is important if you want to keep a circle shape or if you want your glass a certain thickness. As the colors dripped out, they swirled together to create a very unique design.

I used this blue and white pot melt to create a bowl. I added a black and white background and then slumped the glass in a bowl mold. The project came out better than expected. I do need to work on my kiln settings. I can see some very small stress cracks in the pot melt layer. Overall, I am happy with this bowl and I can't wait to try some more!

Wow! It has been a long time.

Well I thought I would check in on my blog. I didn't realize it was a year and a half since I last wrote in it. Well, it was my New Years resolution to become a better business person. I have decided to do a better job at documenting my glass projects. I did my first pot melt a couple of days ago. I will be posting pictures soon. I am really happy with how it came out and I am excited to try more. Lately, I have been enjoying making pendants with fun decals on them. I love this dragonfly decal. It makes me hopeful that spring will be here soon. I have done other pendants with butterflies, owls, flowers, angels and hummingbirds. I am wondering what other images are popular. The possibilities are endless.

First Posting

Ok, so this is it. My first posting on my blog...what do I write about?...ummm...today is my birthday!
I have always read other blogs and I thought that I should start one of my own. Now I have to keep up with it. Life is so busy. My kids keep me really busy and I never have enough time in my studio to get things done. I have been working hard at taking pictures and posting them in my etsy store. In fact I must go right now. My son just got up from his nap.
